Dental Implants in Santa Maria, CA

Dental implants are small titanium posts that replace the roots of missing teeth. They are inserted into the jawbone where the missing tooth was during a surgical procedure. Once the implants are in place and the bone has healed around each one, our dentist at Town Center Dental attaches a crown or other dental restoration to the implants.

The crowns attached to the implants will be fully customized to fit your mouth and blend in perfectly with your natural teeth. They will also be color-matched to your surrounding teeth so that no one will be able to tell that you have replacement teeth.

Each dental implant can have one or more prosthetics attached to it to replace one or several missing teeth at once, allowing you to get a full smile makeover in just one procedure. Getting an implant restores your smile aesthetically, supports your jawbone health by providing stimulation and support, and restores your ability to chew and speak properly as well.

The Advantages of Dental Implants

Unlike removable dentures, which should be replaced every five to seven years, dental implants are placed into the jawbone and remain in place permanently, so you never have to take them out again or replace them. They are designed to function like your natural teeth and provide the same bite force capacity you had before tooth loss.

If you brush and floss normally and visit our dentist every six months for checkups and cleanings, your implants should last the rest of your life. And unlike other options, dental implants can help you enjoy better overall health. With stronger teeth, you can chew and speak properly.

The Dental Implant Procedure

The first step in receiving dental implants is scheduling a consultation with our dentist. During your appointment, our dentist will perform an oral exam and take X-rays to determine if there are any issues affecting your teeth, gums, and bones that support your teeth. Once it has been determined that you are a viable candidate for implant surgery, the procedure is scheduled.

The titanium posts are surgically implanted into the jawbone and gum tissue during the procedure. After placement, the bone is allowed to heal around each post for at least six months before the next step in the process takes place. During this time, the patient wears a temporary restoration over the implants.

Once the bone has healed and the post is secure in the mouth, an abutment is attached to the implant and an impression is taken to create the final crown that will be attached to the implant. The entire process can take a few months to complete.
