Fluoride Treatment in Santa Maria, CA

Fluoride Treatment in Santa Maria, CA

Fluoride is most commonly used to prevent tooth decay in children, but adults can also benefit from fluoride treatments. Patients who regularly receive fluoride treatments are less at risk of developing cavities. At Town Center Dental, we provide fluoride treatments to strengthen tooth enamel, making the teeth more resistant to acid attacks from plaque bacteria and sugars in the mouth.

Fluoride treatments are often recommended as part of an overall preventive dental care routine, in addition to brushing and flossing daily, eating a healthy diet, and seeing the dentist for checkups and professional cleanings. These appointments are essential for your oral health because only a professional can remove the plaque or tartar buildup on your teeth that you cannot remove on your own at home.

How Does Fluoride Treatment Work?

Fluoride is a mineral that will strengthen your tooth enamel and reduce the risk of tooth decay. In-office fluoride treatments usually take only one visit to complete. Before our dentist applies the fluoride solution to your teeth, they will cover your gums with cotton or a rubber dam to protect them. Then, the dentist will place the high-concentration fluoride solution on the teeth and use a laser or ultraviolet light to activate the solution’s properties. In some cases, you may need to come in for several visits if the procedure cannot be completed in one sitting.

Benefits of Fluoride Treatment

Fluoride is a naturally occurring mineral that helps prevent decay and improves the strength of your enamel. While fluoride can be found in some foods and water, it can also be applied topically to your teeth in the form of gels, foams, or varnishes. These topical treatments can be prescribed to both children and adults.

Our dentist applies the fluoride solution directly onto the surface of your teeth. They will use the solution on your back teeth first so that any overspray won’t come into contact with your front teeth. The fluoride solution will be applied in thin layers. After each application, our dentist will dry the tooth. Once all teeth are treated with fluoride, our dentist will rinse your mouth to remove any excess.
